About Space live wallpapers

Outer space wallpapers show our planet and its neighbours as they might look from orbit. City lights trace the outline of continents on the night side of the Earth, in white, gold, violet or red; Saturn shows its rings edge-on; the grey surface of the Moon fills half the screen.

The style is realistic and quiet. The animation is slow: city lights twinkle, the thin blue line of the atmosphere glows at the edge of the planet, a world turns a little in the dark. On an OLED phone, the black of space stays truly black, which makes the lights stand out.

For painted, imaginative scenes of astronauts, portals and coloured nebulas, see the Space art category, which takes a very different, more fantastic approach.

These views from orbit also make a quiet reminder of scale: the city where you are reading this may well be one of those small points of light. Because the picture is mostly black, icons and widgets of any colour stay easy to read on top of it, and the planet's curve along the edge of the screen gives a sense of depth without crowding the frame. They work just as well on the lock screen as on a busy home screen.

Browsing the Marketplace costs nothing. In the VisionAI Android app, you unlock a wallpaper by watching a short video, with no video at all after the one-time "no ads for life" purchase, and the app sets it as your live wallpaper in one tap. On the web, you buy each wallpaper once.
